自述:
In pursuit of an aesthetic experience
The works of Manjunatha Honnapura strikingly and dominantly address the dynamic
nature of things and thereby focus our attention on the very aesthetic nature.
The multidimensional movements depicted suggest a few things depending on the
condition of perception. Whether the life is delineated as microscopic
and macroscopic, finite or infinite, atomic or non-atomic, self or selfless,
immanent or transcendent, one or many, objective or subjective etc., the
movement inheres and underlies that the very dynamics of life is in
the movement and that everything is in the Heraclites an flux at all
times.
The artist makes us too the part of the canvas and one with the moments
moving with a hefty load of innumerable constructions amassed since several
centuries, breathing heavily but discarding nothing. The artist
firmly knows that the painting drawn by the viewer is the product in the real
sense and the work of the artist can only be a relative text and thus
accommodates the onlooker as the part of the painting. This undoubtedly points
us to a concept of aesthetics that the painting is a process wherein the
painter, the canvas, the viewer and the condition of viewing have a fair
responsibility to perform in the process and to think beyond the set pattern of
perception. The artist has intensely woven in a subtle way the concept of
relational origination in almost all the works. The works strongly suggest us
to remain true to our experiences by first turning our attention to the inner,
direct and intimate dynamics of things before we proceed to understand the
external, indirect and peripheral dynamics of things.
One more thing, the artist tries to explore, is the binary pattern of
perception and its transcendence. The reality is more than what could be found
in the empirical or phenomenal world. Some of the works make us to involve
ourselves deeper, wider and beyond ordinary perception of things. The time and
space which are considered to be strong constraints in relational origination
pose great challenges to the artist as well. The paintings of Manjunatha
Honnapura with an intimacy felt through all our sensory organs provide us a
wonderful experience.
